From Malawi we headed across the border into Zambia where we stayed just two nights before making our way to Zimbabwe.
We arrived fairly late on the first day in Zambia at a small campsite where we basically just had dinner (cooked by my group :-) good old spaghetti bolognaise) a few drinks then bed as we had to be up at 4:30am for the next part of our journey-the early starts are not good!!!
We arrived into Lusaka around lunchtime the following day and reached a bit of civilisation!! A huge supermarket and a nandos!! Get in!! We shopped for food and drink ready for the houseboats in Zimbabwe. My group was on punch duty :-D 9 litres of spirits and a dash of fruit juice later we were sorted!
We arrived at the campsite, Vicky's group cooked, fish and chips yummy :-) then again it was a fairly early night as we were all knackered from the long journey and early start!
All was well, was straight off to sleep and out like a light...that was until Vicky woke me up at 2am to ask what the noise outside our tent was!! Ok so something was quite clearly sat next to our tent crunching!! :-/ I then panicked that some wild animal was chomping on my shampoo bottle (which I left outside because it leaked!) but Vicky managed to retrieve this as it was right next to the door...the chomping continued and we decided it sounded like bones! So we frightened each other to death and the animal made a sneezing sound which made me scream and dive bomb over to Vicky's side of the tent!! Somehow I managed to fall back to sleep (still terrified!!)
We woke up in the morning and went outside our tent, there was a big bone at the side if it :-/ then we went to breakfast where we shared our story only to find out that the campsite has three resident jack russells!! Yeh ok so it was just a small dog outside our tent :-/ panic over and we got laughed at by the rest of the group :-(
So we recovered from our dog incident, packed away our tents and headed for the border and across to Zimbabwe where we were spending two nights on a houseboat.
The houseboats were cool, the rooms had no fourth wall so just had like a balcony railing straight onto the lake, great during the day but slightly worrying at night! Open plan room with crocs?! Hmmm....
We spent the first day/night chilling, had a few ciders, and did some sunbathing, decided to relax ready for the punch party!! The next day was spent on deck, drinking a few more ciders and a little bit more sunbathing! We stopped for a swim, yes in the lake which is full of crocodiles :-/ jumped from the boat, had a quick dip and soon got back on board!! Later in the afternoon we had a small but very heavy rain shower-ok so note that the rooms had no side to them...well after the rain,I went for a wee only to find that my contact lense had blown down the toilet :-/ Vicky!!!! Hehe bless her she did come and fish them out for me and I did clean them!! (and i hadnt wee'd on them thank god) haha drama over!
We docked on a small island for the night which was really cool, got up close to some wild elephants and hippos :-) then we settled down and had roast beef and pork followed by apple crumble yum :-) then everything went down hill...
The punch party!! Ok so drinking games seem to be the way forward here but i'm useless so end up hammered!! I also got the drink b**** card which basically means you have to drink everytime someone shouts it at you-I ended up trollied! The night went from bad to worse, ally went for a wee in the plunge pool :-/ lol, me and Alice stole apple crumble and force fed everyone with a massive ladle,we celebrated new years eve-four times?!!! did the conga about three times around the boat and woke the early sleepers up :-) I think we did a few funnels and then I think I passed out.
The following day was well a hangover!! Slept most of the day before leaving the boat and heading back to the truck and to a nearby campsite (wiped out a power line on route that probably took the village years to get :-/ whoops!!)
We had a lazy evening, cooked some chilli on the campfire and prepared for another early start...
Next stop Antelope Park,Zimbabwe...
