Arrived in Cape Town!! After the most amazing weeks on the truck we made it safe and sound!!
So it's the end of my journey with Absolute Africa, from here it was just a few days in Cape Town. The hostel was really nice, a view from the loo of table mountain complete with binoculars (made me laugh slightly!!) on the first night we quickly dropped off our bags and headed off to watch the rugby-stormers vs crusaders! We had a few drinks before the game, played a couple of drinking games, covered ourselves in free tack then headed into the stadium and nearly got crushed! Worse than standing at Glanford Park!!
The following day we headed to the waterfront, took a boat ride and enjoyed a nice glass of wine :-) didn't do anything else really-table mountain was closed due to high winds and robben island booked out for days (wasn't bothered done cape town twice already so was happy sat with wine in the sun!!)
We had a group meal out that night-had the most yummy calamari (yes mum you did read this correctly!!) and the best cheesecake nom nom nom! Me and Vicky did share that so didn't feel too fat lol! Also enjoyed a free bottle of wine with Aly :-) yum!!
We had a day chilling and organising our next few weeks-heading along the garden route and up to jo'burg with the baz bus (a backpackers shuttle bus) we also got a free cape peninsula tour so booked to do this on our last day.
So we said most of our goodbyes and headed off on our own, first stop was Mossel Bay and a really cute little beach house which we had all to ourselves. We arrived late afternoon so just headed to a small restaurant at the train station lol sounds rank but it was really cute and when I say train station I don't mean Doncaster or anything like that!! We spent the rest of the evening chilled in front of the telly with Malibu, tea an chocolate! Very lazy I needed it!
The following day we enjoyed our FREE breakfast!! Then the kind man at the beach house took us to Mossel Bay point for the morning where he surfed and I got chased my these little beaver things across the car park!! The views from there were pretty cool, we climbed up to the lighthouse then treated ourselves to ice cream :-) later we headed back to the beach house, chilled on a really really nice beach before the baz bus picked us up and we made our way to Oudtshoorn...home of the ostriches!!! Here goes....
Arrived in Oudtshoorn and again got a whole dorm to ourselves :-) bonus!! The hostel was nice, really clean and extra wide beds lol! We cooked our first tea...beans on toast haha it was nice!! Then chilled out and booked to go on a 20mile bike ride the next day which would take us to the ostrich farm and wildlife reserve hmmm...
Woke up nice and early :-) went to collect our bikes...on the test ride I crashed and Vicky crashed...yes the guy looked quite scared and told us to collect helmets! He also handed us our puncture repair kits...really?! Like I know how to repair a puncture!! Is there not an equivalent company to the AA but for bikes??? Fingers were crossed that I didn't get a puncture!! And my second thought was to ring and wake Aiden up at home for a step by step guide lol :-)
The guy dropped us off in the middle of nowhere, gave us a really lame map and drove off...it was me, Vicky, our bikes and a whole lot of countryside!! Hmm....
But we made it to the ostrich farm!! Was excited to get there....and a whole lot more excited to leave....horrific!!!! They were awful!! The only fun part was laughing at the dwarf ostrich haha cruel to laugh but it did look funny!! Other than that my experience at the farm traumatised me!! Their necks??!! What's that all about, they are gross and like snakes and you can see the food they swallow move down through it!! Eww!! Grim!!
Then we went and was able to ride them-not a chance was I doing it! They were evil!! I would rather throw myself off vic falls again before I got on one of those giant chicken things! Then the guy passed me a food bucket and I had to stand with my back to them-it was awful they all came up behind me with their freaky long necks wrapped around my head, coming from all directions! I actually nearly cried!! And one tried to eat my earring!!! I think I squealed for the guy to take the food bucket and get them away from me...awful just awful!! After that I was back on my bike and cycling away from the hell hole!! NEVER again!!
Deep breathes and the next stop was the wildlife reserve, with a tour leader that liked to crack lame jokes...and birds flapped at you...wonderful just wonderful!!
Let's just say the bike ride was the best bit!!
Next stop is Plettenberg Bay...I'll be careful when choosing what activities I do there!!!
P.s the only good thing about an ostrich is they make bloody good burgers!! I will sit and enjoy every bite of my next one!! Horrible birds!!
