I made the most of my last morning of sleep, having a long sleep in and a laze in the sun. I went out for a bit and wandered, but I didn't go into the city. It was nice just to enjoy the quiet, something that's been very scarce for the last month.
The three thirty I went down stairs to join up with the tour for tonight's excursion, only there was no one around! I thought I had missed it. But I kept waiting and finally Patricia, the tour manager came down. I hadn't missed anything. They were the ones who were late. The bus for this excursion is much bigger than the last one. Loads of leg room.
We hit traffic on the way to the Casteli Romani. Apparently there was a strike here today and with no public transport everyone took their cars.
When we finally reached Casteli Gandolfo it was practically deserted. We must have been the only tour group and only the locals were mostly children playing in the square. The biggest building was the summer residence of the pope. The place was so lovely, it looked out over a beautiful lake. It was just a small lake, you could see all the way around it. The view were fantastic.
We had a problem on the way to the next village, Frascati, where we were supposed to have dinner. The road was closed off because of a parade for a wine festival. We tried to sneak through anyway. We got off the bus for a bit to check out the festival. It was so much fun. They'd closed the streets off and were having a street party. There were lights and balloons and singing. I wish we could have stayed longer and had a better look. We ended up being late for dinner but it was so worth it.
Dinner was a typical Italian dinner with music and wine and it was loads of fun. I was a bit worried because it was the first excursion I was doing with this new group but it was fine. I met some really nice people whose names I really should learn.
