So, I'm on my own today. You'd think I'd get something of a sleep in, but the walls are so thin here I can hear everything going on next door. I was awake around seven, but I was able to doze for a while, do some washing and read my book.
Around ten, when I was half way through Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol' which I started yesterday, I realized I needed to go out. So all on my lonesome, I jumped on the bus and headed out.
I took the metro to Piazza Repubblica and bought a ticket for the On Off Bus tour of Rome. I really enjoyed the sights. I'd seen most it before but only from the inside of a bus. It was beautiful, sitting on the top deck of the bus, with the wind in my face, seeing all the sights of Rome. The commentary was pretty lousy with loud bursts of static. I jumped off and had lunch at the Trevi Fountain. I got back on the bus and spent the test of the afternoon there just watching the city go past.
I managed to catch a bus that took me to a stop about five minutes walk from the hotel rather than the fifteen minutes we had previously managed and back just in time to have a shower before our tour meeting.
I skipped the dinner and tour of Rome tonight as I have already done it as a part of the last tour we did. I'll also get to skip the tour of the Vatican tomorrow morning which will be my last chance to have any kind of sleep in, as the day after we leave for Florence. I think I'll make the most of it.
