Got off the night train feeling quite refreshed. Such a change from night buses in Cambodia and Vietnam. I asked a Thai girl how to get to our hostel. She advised us on the best price to pay in a tuk tuk which was so helpful. So far everyone we have met has been lovely. Dropped our bags to the hostel then headed out to a shopping centre. I needed to get my phone fixed. It only took and hour to fix my screen which I was pretty impressed with. I'm coming back to Bangkok with Ash at the end of my trip so didn't really feel the need to sight see too much. We just had lots of bits too do after being on the conservation for a week.
The whole city is covered in massive portraits of the king. It's also all decorated with fairy lights. It's the kings birthday on the 4th so apparently it's for this. The is also teams of people going round washing the streets.
Headed back to the hostel to meet Chels after her flight. We all headed to Khao San road. This is the main backpacker district, full of other tourists. Grabbed some food here and went for a drink. Seemed pretty lively. Got offered to go to ping pong shows constantly which we did not take them up on haha. We were pretty rock and roll and headed to the cinema at 10. Really wanted to watch the new hunger games. We had to stand up in the cinema when they played the national anthem.
Following morning we headed to Central World shopping centre. It was just like being in the UK. Went to the food court which had an English section. I got some cheddar cheese, I've missed cheese!!! Also went to a twinning tea shop got a cup of tea. We are so bloody british. Ended up leaving the shopping centre late as per. The traffic was insane and we weren't sure if we would make it back in time for our train at half 5. We asked the tuk tuk driver to drive quick and my god he did. He was weaving in and out the traffic, definitely had to close my eyes at times. He kept going the opposite way up one way streets. He did get us to our train in time.
Koh Phangan next for full moon. X
