So Langkawi... What an island. I have absolutely loved it, it may even be my favourite place so far. So much charm about the place.
When Sarah arrived we went and got our scooters, we hired them for two days so we can explore the island. I felt ready to get my own one this time, and I must say I loved driving round on it. Makes it easy that the roads are good and there is hardly any traffic so nice and enjoyable.
On our first day with them, we went west to a place called Seven Wells Waterfall. The waterfall was really nice, but the best part was the tiny rock pools at the top. Because of the way the water runs through them, it's made the rocks really smooth so you can slide down them. It was so much fun and we did lots of go-proing. We were planning to go on the cable cars up to a mountain while that way, but we didn't think it would be worth it as it was so cloudy which was a shame.
Next day Chelsea woke up asking if she had anything in her eye, when we turned on the light me and Sarah both gasped in shock as one of Chelsea's eyes was so swollen, it was massive. So Chels ended up not being able to use the scooter as she couldn't really see. Was pretty funny though. So me and Sarah headed north east that day. Tried to go up Gunung Raya Mountain, but again really cloudy which I was gutted about. Instead we just went to Air Hangat Village, where there were some hot springs and then to Durian Perangin Waterfall. Which has probably been my favourite waterfall yet. Was set in a very well maintained tropical environment, and just very impressive.
Being on scooters is such a good way to see the island. The landscape is just breathtaking, it's so tropical, and it would really remind me just how far away from home I am when cows or monkeys would be in the middle of the road.
The island is so diverse too, some areas there would be nothing around but shacks, while some areas were developed with loads going on. Pantai Cenang is a great place on the island to make our base. Loads of little shops and restaurants - we have eaten at some amazing restaurants. So more people from Georgetown came to join us, so there was a good little group of us again. I've really enjoyed going out to dinner in a big group of people from all over the world. Of course they speak English but I have loved learning about their traditions and learning some of their language.
The beach is also the best I've seen so far, beautiful white sand, nice and long with tiny islands all in the background. It's got a great balance of being able to relax, but can also do loads of water sports. It's a shame though as you can see in some areas they are starting to build really modern buildings, and they just stick out.
Today though was our last day here, and in Malaysia. We spent all day on the beach which was lovely. Malaysia has exceeded all my expectations, I've really loved it. The people are friendly and I've just felt so safe. I even went for a run along the beach one morning alone, which I didn't think I'd feel I could do.
But it's time to move on, we are getting picked up have half 7 in the morning to get a ferry over to our next stop... Thailand baby!!!!!
