Had some time this morning before my flight so headed to a tea shop I'd seen last time called Let's Eat Cake. Very cute and posh and had a lovely cup of tea.
Being the now experienced public transporter, I was reading over my route to the airport. Looked a piece of cake. Just before heading off I checked my flight ticket one more time to make sure I got the time right. And well what a shock to see I was flying from a completely different airport. Luckily I left loads of time and thank god I checked and noticed hahah. So a taxi it was, and a long one at that, all the way to the right airport.
Before I knew it I landed in sunny Cambodia. Forms filled in, along with my 30US$ and my passport photo ready to get my visa. My passport is looking pretty damn cool these days.
Pre arranged with the hostel to pick me up from the airport and the friendly taxi man was there waiting for me.
First impressions driving through, Cambodia, well at least Siem Reap, is nothing like I imagined. Lots of well build buildings and hotels, roads are ok. And I didn't get my bag stolen out of the tuk tuk from a passing by bike. Which I thought for sure was going to happen.
Checked into Siem Reap Hostel, dropped my bag off in my room and didn't know what to do with myself. So different not travelling with friends. So I went for a a look around. Hostel looks amazing, there's an pool in the bar, cinema, a yoga room and lots of place to sit and relax and socialise.
Went out for dinner with people from my room. Crazy how you can go from being all alone, to then dining with 5 other people. Conversation was easy, all sharing stories of our travels. Which now, three months in I have a few.
The streets are really nice, loads of places to eat and a really nice atmosphere. Thought I'd be walking round crapping myself, but in fact I felt at ease.
So all in all, my first impressions are very good, looking forward to exploring more and seeing what's about.
