We flew through the most amazing sunset to reach Christchurch, New Zealand. We spent the first couple of days exploring the South Island's main city. We went punting down the Avon River, visited the cathedral and Botanic Gardens before heading up on the gondola to get panaromic views of the city and its surrounds from high in the mountains.
We decided it was time to hit the road so we picked up our campervan and drove along the coast before heading inland to the Southern Alps. We have never seen scenery as stunning as New Zealands. We saw snow-capped mountains including Mount Cook - NZ's highest mountain, surrounded by glaciers, icebergs and turquoise coloured lakes. We even managed to see an avalanche on one of our many walks through the area. We carried on our journey down to the Southern Scenic Route visiting Dunedin, Otago Peninsula, and the Catlins before reaching Invercargill, our present destination. We have seen so much wildlife on the way too - seals, sea lions, royal albatross, kea's, yellow - eyed penguins. We are having a great time!!!
