Visited the gold mining town of Ballarat, just outside of Melbourne. We visited the live working museum of Sovereign Hill - a place where you walk round and there are actors living out the day to day life of people in a gold mining town in the old days. It was weird but good! We got to pan for gold - David managed to come away with a tiny amount, not worth anything though unfortunately. Stopped off at The Grampians for a couple of nights on our way back from Adelaide to Melbourne. Here we saw the devastation that the bush fires cause and experienced our hottest temperatures yet - 45 degrees!!!! It was so hot that we had to get up so early to visit all the lookout points and walks to make sure that we where back indoors by 1pm when the heat was unbearable.

We decided to hire a car so that we could explore the surrounding areas of Melbourne and then travel along the Great Ocean Road en-route to Adelaide. We spent a week in Melbourne which mainly consisted of watching the first test of the Ashes on the big screen. In between the cricket we visited the observation deck of the Rialto Tower for amazing views over the city, St. Paul's Cathedral, Botanic Gardens, St. Kilda, Port Melbourne and watched a boat race along the Yarra River.
