Margaret River
We enbarked on another trip with Easyriders which took us from Perth to Margaret River, then Albany and back to Perth - stopping on the way at the various points of interest. We drove south, as far as Bunbury to go to the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre; which wasn't up to much to be honest and a waste of $4! We then drove on to Dunsborough for lunch, which we eat on Yallingup beach - both Dunsborough and Bunbury looked like nice seaside towns. After lunch we drove to Canal Rocks wher we got out and climbed over the rocks (to see the natural canal whih the ocean has created), it is beautiful. We drove on again and cam to Surfers Point beach where we had a walk on a very windy beach! On our way in to Margaret River we stopped at a winery called Driftwood Winery where we tasted about 10 wines for just $3 each!...we were also talked in to buying a case of rose with some other people on the trip - it was very nice! We checked in to the hostel and went straight to the ub for dinner and drinks...here we met some slightly crazy people from Sydney, and we ended up at their fancy holiday apartment for more Margaret River wine after the pub! We 'hopped off' the tour bus here and decided to stay for 3 nights.
To say that this definately was NOT our favourite hostel to date, was an understatement, so we didn't spend a lot of time there. But Margaret River is very beautiful so we spent a lot of our time here walking. Also, without a car you are very limited to what you can do. Day 1 was a chill out day and we explored the town of MR, which isn't so big. This also included a visit to the small fudge factory and a small purchase!! Day 2 - we got a lift to Prevelly beach (a great place to stay if any of you ever go this way) where we walked up the river estuary a short way and sat and had park of our picnic, then we walked along the beach watching the surfers and up to a junior surf competition! We watched the competition for a while and then went for lunch at a very nice restaurant. Then we started on the 10km walk back to MR, which is a lovely walk through countryside and past kangaroo paddocks. Day 3 - we did the woodland river walk alongside the Margaret River, it was beautiful and the sun was shining so we didn't have much to complain about!! In the afternoon we chilled out in the park with some magazines. We left the next day on the Easyrider bus...MR is a lovely town and it is surrounded by beautiful wineries and miles of vinyards and gorgeous, English-looking, countryside, but you do need a car to explore this region in full.
