When we arrived at Coral bay, it was over cast and raining. 2 other people got off the bus here with us a German man called Klaus and an Irish girl called Aisling (who we later found out, was a friend of Mike and Rose.. She had meet them in the Pherintian Islands, what a small world it is!). We all went for breakfast at the bakery. Coral Bay is an incredably small place and the only thing to do there is snorkeling, so because of the bad weather we were all a bit stuck for things to do. We spent the rest of the day chatting with Klaus and Aisling and reading trashy magazines.
The following day the weather was still bad so still no snorkeling, but Kalus had said that he would like to go for a walk along the beach to a cove he had heard about so me and Sarah went with him. We walked for about 2km when we came across 2 people who were doing marine research on reef sharks, when we arrived by them they were pulling in a reef shark! It was a smallish shark, but they allowed us to get up close to take some photos and watch them put the chip in it's belly. Apparently they only catch 1 to 2 a day so we were really lucky to see them catch one. They basically taged the sharks fin, measured it, and put a chip in to monitor it. After they put it back in the water, we carried on walking for another 2km, then turned round to come back. On our way back they were just pulling in another shark! This time it was a lot bigger and they were struggling to pull it in so of course we had to help!!!!! We helped them hold down the shark whilst they did all their reasearchy things, but it took 4 of us to hold down that shark, they are just pure muscle! We then had to help them carry it back in the sea. All three of us were just busing with adrenalin! They thanked us and we went back to the hostel to tell Aisling all about what we had seen!!!
The following day the weather had cleared up, and the normal bright sunshine resumed. So the four of us went down to the beach to do some snorkeling on our own. We didn't see the big manta rays that we were hoping for (and thankfully not the shark that we helped tag the day before) but we did see some really nice coral, and some fish.
We also did a glass bottom boat tour whilst we were in Coral Bay, it was the cheapest tour there that advertised that you might see Manta Rays, but we didn't see any! We did do some more snorkeling though of the back of the boat, Sarah took a good video of me and Aisling at the back of the boat screaming at all the big fish that were swarming us!!!
Next stop on the adverture is Denham!
