Denham - Perth
We left Denham and headed for Kalbarri making a few stops on the way as usual. Our first stop was at Monkey Mia again for those who had not hopped off at Denham to see the dolphins, and again we saw the dolphins up close - they are so lovely! Then to Geraldton briefly to pick up some breakfast and lunch for later. Our next stop was a lunch stop at Shell Beach; aptly named for the beach is entirely made up of tiny and broken shells - these shells are several metres deep on the beach and are even used for making building blocks from. From here we went to Ocean Park where we saw some cool marine life, including MORE SHARKS! This time the guide dangled some fish in to the water on a stick so we could see how aggressively they fed -it was cool! We also saw turtles, sea snakes, lots of fish, octopus, stingrays, stonefish etc. From there it was on to Kalbarri - our overnight stopping point. We didn't get to see much of the town but we did go to a brilliant fish & chip place that did massive seafood platters and chips, or steak and chips; it was quite cheap too and bring your own booze! Here we also met up with Aisling again!
The next day we had quite a bit of driving to do but we had a stop at Eagles Bluff, Hawks Head and Dynamite Bay lookout points. They are all beautiful and look out over either gorges or coastlines with great views. After this our driving took us through a few small towns including a little place called Jurien Bay - where Vicky spent quite abit of time when she was in Oz! Before we get to Perth we make our last stop at the Pinnacles (see photos); it is a desert which is covered in stalagmites and it looks like a scene from a Star Wars movie! It is a really large area which is covered with these formations and you can drive and walk right between them which is really cool. The largest one is about 10 ft tall. From here we drive the rest of the way to Perth, and when we check in to the hostel we realise it is is the nicest/cleanest hostel we have ever seen - it was more like a travelodge room! Expensive for a hostel, but worth it!
