Our flight to Vietnam went very smoothly. By the time we took off and reached max height it was time to start the decent!
We had booked a transfer to our hostel to make things easier when we arrived! Our little man was waiting for us, everything was running so smoothly until half way through our transfer our driver got stopped by the police. We were sat waiting for at least 20mins until he returned to the car. I asked him what it was all about and he just laughed saying 'no no no'.
After finally reaching the hostel, getting checked in and sorted for our first day in Vietnam, we ventured out to explore the city.
Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and very different from anywhere we've been. It's very old fashioned which is nice as a lot of places we have visited prior have been westernised! Traffic is even crazier than in Bangkok.
Our first day here started the same as usual, wondering around aimlessly not really knowing where to go or what to do. We soon found our feet and picked up a banh cuon, which is basically a soft baguette filled with minced pork and a lot of random veggie looking things...I'm slowly learning to just eat without inspecting too much!
With our food purchased we headed to Hoan Kiem lake which is bang in the middle of Hanoi. We joined the locals and sat and ate our rolls while enjoying the view and a bit of people watching!
Next was the history museum, worth a visit but think I should have polished up a little more on my history before our trip. Everything was in sooo much detail, very interesting though and I can definitely say we are both learning a lot!
Hanoi was the first place we decided to stay in a dorm. When we first arrived everyone was very quiet and didn't say much so when we went back after our day, myself and Jazz decided to break the ice. Glad we did as we met a couple from Sweden... Or so we thought, as they were actually brother and sister.
We went out for street food with them and spent the rest of the evening drinking free beer at the hostel and sharing our experiences.
We had a reasonably early night as the next day we were getting picked up early for our trip to Halong bay.
