The sleeper train was a success, 15hrs hours went so quick, unlike our flights out to Asia! You'll see in the pics exactly what it looked like so no point boring you with too many details.
We arrived in Chiang Mai at 10am as scheduled and our transfer to our guesthouse awaited us. Having stayed in a relatively nice hotel(£30 per night) it was a little bit of a shock when we rocked up to Bens guesthouse(£5 per night) that would be our home for the next 2 nights. Saying that, we settled in quickly and it's absolutely perfect for our needs and the owners are so nice and very helpful.
Our first day was spent walking around the old city not really knowing where we were going and trying to read a 3D map with half the stuff missing off it! A good first day though to break us in and work out the place.
On the second day we decided to rent a scooter and head up to Doi Suthep temple about 15miles out of the city. The scooter cost £5 for the day and was a worthwhile investment! The temple was awesome and after seeing so many in the city this one was definitely worth the ride. On the way back we stopped at a couple of waterfalls, which we were really looking forward to and they did not disappoint! There's something about the sun, a waterfall and beautiful views that really ticks the box!
As the next day we were heading off on a 3 day trek in the jungle, we thought would treat ourselves to a sit down meal as we knew we would not have a choice on what we were going to eat.
The cuisine of choice was my fav...Mexican...we stuffed ourselves for a total bill of £12 with service that you could only dream of in England!
But the best is yet to come.. Desert! Ice cream made from scratch. They pour milk onto basically the opposite to a hot plate and produce it right in front of your eyes. I went for Oreo and choc, Jazz had choc brownie and banana! Bellies full with a great meal, we headed back to bens to pack for our trek and get some well needed sleep! X
