Sam the all star Trecker
We waited in terror for our bus to pick us up at 1 so when we found out we had been delayed until 3 my heart sank even further! Great bday this was sitting in terror wiating for the jump to be over. We had lunch in fear then headed in the bus to the shop at 3 to put on our gear! The instructors made the feeling lighter as they were so unserious and joky about everything they just made you laugh and forget about the fear. I had a massive blister on my foot from the gym before so was in a little pain from my trainers and the instructor was just laughing at me. I got put with the one that took the mic which was fine with me as he was a good laugh and I could see we were gonna get on. He looked a little like Chris Evans. I signed my life away and then put my trousers and harness thing on. Did some quick demonstartions and tests and then away we went to the air field. The plane was hilarious just a tiny little thing which we all had to squeeze into. It had no door and I think I was more scared being in the plane then jumping out of it. As we went up me and Vic started getting a little more hysterical then we already were and we both had the fits of giggles!! At 2000 feet we asked if we were there yet as we were extremely high but the instructors just laughed and said no not even a quarter of the way up yet! EEk! All of a suuden we were made to kneel up and get in line! Vicky went first and I saw the air grab her as she jumped out which filled me with dread. Then it was me! It was the best feeling ever. Free falling but without the gutless feeling. You just felt like you were flying through the clouds! I cant explain it but it was unbelievable. The we went from being above the clouds to in them and then out of them! Thats when it got scary when you could see just how high you were and you were falling through the air. Then suddenly the parachute went up and you flicked up right and everything became very relaxing however we were still soooo far away from the ground. It was the best way to view the city. We glided through the air thinking how it was that we actually did get down and I could see Vicky going in to land. We swirled round quite a lot and he made me practice landing while I was in the air by lifting my legs into Pike position. Apparently most accidents occured from people not lifting their legs enough on landing. The landing was great too and an un believable feeling. I wanted to do it again and again I loved it. It was the best birthday event ever!!! On the way back to the shop we broke down from no petrol which I thought was very funny!! No one worries about that happening but at least it wasnt the plane! We got picked up by another van and then started the party that evening. Went out with 2 of the girls from our dorm and partied away. Went to a few bars met a lot of people as chatty Drunk Sam appeared. Met some paramedics who had been helping the Cyclone victims so gave them all a pat on the back. When we returned home I went to get a drink of water for me and Vicky but instead got side tracked and found a massive fish in the freezer (dont ask) which I then proceeded to tell a whole stag party was one that I caught earlier that day. Anyway a few hours after going to get the water for Vicky I returned still wearing my pjs which were now covered in graffiti from the people I had met in our group kitchen. It was an ace night but woke with a headache the next day and had to travel to Kuranda!!!
