Day 22
Things fair to middling - got to get the pattern right - slept 9 hrs with time on my phone in the middle of the night - yeh - found a German couple taking a taxi to Sahagun so hopped in too - yeh - then downhill from there.
Sahagun a bit depressing - 2000 people but seemed deserted - empty houses, empty shops, walked around for ages until I found the heart of the town -then had the best tortilla to date - yeh (in Spain a tortilla is a potato pie bound with egg - good for GF:)
Found Albergue Benedictine Nuns - closed :( - avoiding the Municipal Albergue since last one smelled of sewerage:(
Hmm - Jeff still 2 hours away - then focussed on Albergue 10kms away in next town - 'a real gem - family style' - I CAN walk 10 kms - this will lift my spirits so off I go, ringing Jeff to meet him at the next town.
Spring, lope, step, plod, draaag - seemed forever! Ate salami and cheese at one seat, lay down on the next! Then found this little Ermito - I love the idea of these little simple places of contemplation.
Yeh - at last made it to the 'little gem' - completo! full! F***. Plodded round to the municipal Albergue - and joy o joy Ferdinando and Mario are enthusiastic smiling volunteers, gave us a private room, gave me a chocolate almond which I wolfed down - then a beer and a communal meal tonight - life is good :).
