We had a rush to get to our next destination – The Rhein in Flammen at Oberwesel. Our journey to Sankt Goar was about 4 hours. From there it was a quick freshen up to get to the train to the next town which was Oberwesel. Once at Oberwesel we had to pick up the tickets for the boat from within the wine festival. After a long day of rushing and fully recovered from the Party Mix, we all enjoyed the Bitburger. The boat cruised up and down the river between Bacharach and Sankt Goar waiting for the sun to set. We had wonderful views of all of the castles and the villages, but somehow missed the Lady of Loreley, who we later found out was a key point along the river.
As darkness fell everyone went to the top of the boat to wait. We waited and waited. Stan and I were on shifts to get beer so we didn't lose our spot. There was lots of commentary in German that had the crowd sighing and laughing….We had no idea….we had lost Dave and no one near us had any English. Turned out the trains were running late (not unusual we found out along the Rhine) so the fireworks had to wait. Once they went off they were well worth the wait.
