Today we flew to Germany. It was a very quick trip from London to Frankfurt. The most standout thing from the air was forests with small areas of farms around the villages and the Rhine river. Once on the ground we encountered some more unsmiling people at airports. The man at the customs desk was unamused I came through the EU citizen queue, even when I pointed out there was no other queue. The girl who we picked up the hire car from definitely did not enjoy her job. But once we left the airport all was well. The drive to Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber was along 2 autobahns. We thought we were going very fast but cars passéd us as if we were standing still. What were they travelling 170km?...180km?.....200km?.......
The other really noticeable thing on the autobahns were the enormous number of trucks. Rows and rows of them both on the road and in the truck stops.
Once at Rothenburg, we wound our way through the narrow streets within thee city wall only to discover there was no booking for us. The man looked at the print out from my itinerary with concern. Lucky I had that itinerary!! He ended up moving us into a lovely hotel just up the road called the Golderne Rose.

Jane Pross Those wind farms are everywhere, aren't they. Look like something from a science fiction. Enjoying your blog!
