A busy day. After an amazing lunch on the island we raced for and caught the ferry back to split. It was difficult to leave because the wine was starting to flow and the atmosphere was good, but we had things to do. After a bit of wandering around the city we saw a midnight fireworks display to welcome in a new era in the history of Croatia....joining the EU. Feelings are mixed on the topic depending on who you are speaking to but everyone seems to have the same opinion - that is, people don't understand enough about it and it is happening too fast. Anyhow it has occurred now and we will have to wait and see. Up early for a coffee and a walk on the first day of EU. Felt the same. Decided to go to the fish market first up for a look but there were no fish being sold but a heap of people protesting. Hmmm. I later found out that the tax laws were being changed as part of the move to the EU and these guys will have to pay tax or more tax. Watch this space. So it was a day of catchup and we raced around Diocletians palace looking at all there was to see. It must have beer an impressive place to be in its day. The walk around was punctuated with some good meals and occasional beer. After this went home and packed my pannier bags ready for an early start the next day. This chore will become easier once Sara leaves with half the stuff I no longer require. Caught Niki on his return from the island and we sat out in the cafe outside drinking until 2:30am.
