You see, this is why i love city-breaks so much... lazing around at the beach and sunbathing is all well and good, but far more entertaining things happen when you get to a city!!!
This was the 3rd time we'd arrived in Bangkok on this trip and every time we've been we've liked it just as much. It's hot, sweaty & dirty (the streets, not the pingpong shows!), but it's a great place with a really nice vibe.
This time around we managed to cram in a visit to the State Tower Sky Bar (perhaps a bit bigger and grander, but not as cool as the Sky Bar at the Banyan Tree for me), a couple of really nice restaurants (Thing Thai & Coyote) and most entertainingly a visit to Silom Soi 4 (Bangkok's Gay District) where we experienced our first ever visits to both a Telephone Bar and a Gay Karaoke Bar! The most impressive part about the visit to Bearbie's Karaoke was not the 10s of cuddly teddy bears which were strewn everywhere, but rather the vocal stylings of the 2 Thai guys who sang Western Songs with American accents and could have been lifted straight (no pun intended) from the Backstreet Boys. They were brilliant! For our part, they were suitably impressed with Rache and My's rendition of the classic Whole New World and Rache's whole-hearted performance of "I'll Make Love to You" by Boys II Men... very funny!!!
Other than that, we've spent our last 4 afternoons by the pool trying to get a bit of a tan before home, and the rest of the time we've been trying to work out where the last 6 months and 10 days went...
Time flies when you're having fun... x
