We arrived in Mysore yesterday morning after a 12 hour bus journey. The bus was comfortable; the seats reclined right back which was good apart from the persons head in front was pretty much on your lap. When we got off and got our bags from the luggage compartment they were soaked due to the storm overnight. All of Pete's clothes were wet.
We quickly found a hotel room, hung up the wet clothes all over the place and went out to explore Mysore.
It's the first city we have visited in India. The streets are busy with locals, you can really see the poverty and the divide between the rich and poor.
After breakfast we visited the Maharaja Palace. This is a huge building sitting in the centre of the palace garden, walled in from the city. It's decor is impressive although it shows its age. We have noticed that a lot of the beautiful buildings here seem to be quite dilapidated. The palace was designed by a British architect, Henry Irwin in 1912 after the original was gutted by fire.
We then took a walk through the bustling streets and made our way in to a local bazaar. Here they sold every fruit, veg and herb you could name and more. Incense is a major part of Mysore, a young boy showed us how he makes it to sell on his stall along with his natural oils from flowers. Pete bought one that is called 9 flower, it is the same oil used to make the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume. The bazaar was mad but a lot of fun.
The Dussehra Jamboree is starting today, the city is packed with people who will be heading to the palace tonight where it will be lit up with thousands of lights and various performances will take place. They have also covered the rest of the city in fairy lights, it looks incredible at night!
It's a bit cooler here and not as humid as the other places we have visited, so it's been nice to be able to walk round without dripping in sweat!!!
Tonight we are getting another overnight bus to Hampi. This time we are going to wrap our rucksacks in bin bags. Better safe than sorry.

Colin I'm glad your camping skills have come in handy, wrapping everything in plastic bags. Nothing worse than putting soggy clothes on first thing in the morning. Catch up again soon, safe trip. Love Dad
Rob There seems to be an emerging thread with Petes clothes first the plane now the bus lol
