Day 89 Can Tho – Vinh Long
Typical of Vietnam, we managed to wave down two moto’s right outside our guesthouse to take us to the bus station. The lady at the bus station tried to overcharge us but I managed to barter down our tickets. It was a long journey again, and we got dropped off somewhere random yet again!! We walked around the town, and then got 2 motorbikes to the river, where we booked a home stay for the evening. This also came with a tour around Can Be Island.
We got on a boat which took us to an Island on the river. We were greeted by the Dad (we never got his name), and then went to our bedrooms. The house is very very basic, but the surroundings are amazingly beautiful. Our bedroom has two camp beds and that’s it. We went for a walk to see the crocodiles, there were so many- Rog loved them.
We walked back and had a few drinks in the garden before the other couple arrived. They were from Austria and both retired, Lisbeth and Gerard. Rog and I played with the little boy from the family, although he didn’t really want to share his Lego. We all helped to cook our dinner, which consisted of Spring rolls, fish, and Tofu for me. We also had vegetables and fruit. The dinner was really nice, which complimented a really relaxing evening.
Day 90
We had an early start and a really nice breakfast. We were then picked up by our guide for the day in a long tail boat and taken along through the floating markets of Can Bei Island. I t was a really rough journey getting there but well worth it. We were taken to a local handicraft workshop, where they made Rice paper, sweets and pop rice, this we were shown how it’s made.
We then started our walk for lunch on the Island, It is so nice and quiet. Rog had elephant fish and I had tofu, it was very nice but expensive. We then got on bikes, however Rog got a crap bike so slightly disappointing. Heading back to the river we hopped onto a traditional rowing boat, where we wore Vietnamese hats and our tour guide sang a song- slightly weird.
Back in Vinh long we booked our trip to HCMC. It only took 5 hours and surprisingly we were dropped off with the locals, where we got 2 moto’s to the city centre. After checking out several hotels we checked into the cheapest. A really busy day so we were shattered.
