Day 94 HCMC – Mui Ne
Checked out of our guesthouse early and made our way to the Sleeper Bus. We both really impressed with the buses, considering what we had been used to. I thought the term sleeper bus was going to be used quite loosely, but in fact you could actually lie or sit in your seat, making it great to pass the time on the long distance journeys. Em slept the whole way to Mui Ne but didn’t enjoy the fact there was no toilet on board. The buses did make plenty of toilet stops, so panic over. We arrived in Mui Ne at 1:30, checked into a guesthouse with bungalows at the back and headed straight for the beach. The beach was really clean but windy, which meant the sea was really choppy – perfect for water sports, especially kite surfing. The kite surfing looked amazing but unfortunately we don’t have the money or time to take it up; definitely one day though. Had dinner at a really nice restaurant and headed to bed early.
Day 95
We woke up early and headed to the beach for breakfast and to top up our tans- both successful! It was really really hot but so nice and relaxing to be on a beach again. Rog got talking to a kite surfing guy for ages; definitely think we are going to take it up when we get back home. We both had a nice noodle soup for lunch and booked our sand dunes tour for the next day. We headed back to our guesthouse for a well needed shower. It’s so quiet in Mui Ne and everything is in walking distance which is such a bonus. The people all seem very friendly as well. We spent the evening at Joe’s café, and had dinner in some random restaurant, this was disappointing.
Day 96
I had lots of fruit for brekki, was so nice in particular the dragon fruit! Rog surprise surprise had eggs. We then went on the beach for a couple of hours, and waited for the jeep to come pick us up for our day trip.
Once on the jeep we travelled for a bout 15 mins along the coast which is beautiful, and stopped off at The Fairy Springs. This is beautiful, and consists of walking up a river in bare feet and the sand dunes are either side of you. Some local children showed us the way (this is who our tour guide left us to), and where really nice until they started demanding money from us for looking after our shoes at the river bank. This was clearly a scam as all they did was tell us to take off our shoes and follow them. One boy got really aggressive with another couple, it didn’t get him anywhere.
We got the jeep to the old fishing village which was an impressive site on the coast. This led on to a 45 minute journey to the white sand dunes. Our jeep broke down on the way, but luckily got going pretty quick. The view was stunning; with paddy fields and rivers with a dramatic looking sand dune behind- it was breathtaking! The white dunes were amazing, and extremely windy. After a 10 min walk to the top and our plastic sledges in tow, we slowly but surely went sand dune sledging. This was hilarious. It was so slow going down the dunes, and walking back up to the top was a mission and a half, but it was such good fun.
On the way back we stopped off a t more sand dunes for the sunset. This was beautiful.
We headed out in the evening for an all you can eat BBQ, this never happened, as the place had decided to cancel it – boo! But the journey there with three people on a bike was rather interesting. We walked back which was really nice and saw a motorbike accident which wasn’t so nice. We went to Joe’s café again for a few beers and live music, the singers were really good.
