A late breakfast and pack, then a walk around El Calafate before the pickup for the airport at 1pm.
The town is a busy place with tourists well catered for with the many shops, restaurants, tour operators and an out of place casino - 2 Peso admission! I must mention the number of dogs roaming the street and sleeping in shop doorways and on the pavement.
Arrived at the airport to a long line for check in. There was a sign for airport departure tax but unlike Puerto Iguasu, this time we had to pay - 38 Pesos or $US9 each. Nearly got caught out but luckily we had US dollars.
Aerolineas Argentinas MD 80 to Buenos Aires EZE - the main airport (international). We were again served the ubiquitous cardboard box of ham and cheese roll, chocolate biscuit like a wagon wheel, toffee and soft drink.
The old airport runway is now a main road. Many shops and restaurants do not accept credit cards for purchases. It is easy to be caught out expecting to pay using credit only to discover "cash only". The result of this is long queues of tourists at the (3 that I saw) ATMs throughout the day. I tried two on our first night to discover they were out of order. Most places will also accept US $ so that at least helps.
Arrived in BA and cleared the airport and off to the hotel. A hair raising drive with an out of control driver. We hope we haven't got him tomorrow for the return to the airport at 2.30pm.
Went for a walk in now familiar streets in BA and had a lovely meal in a close by restaurant. We were the only ones in the restaurant as folks eat late - 10pm onwards. We had a lot of fun with the waiters using the Translator Ap on our phones. The streets at 9pm teeming with people.
Today's photo is of the hotel where we stayed in El Calafate.
Last night in Argentina and last night in South America.
