Day 21: after a leisurely pancake breakfast at our site we headed off for a leisurely stroll. We took in a short cave which lead into a narrow canyon, then a small waterfall. Wombeyon has a lot to offer, but we were moving on again.
Heading north we drove along nearly deserted roads through pleasant countryside with green hills and farmsteads. Arriving in Oberon for lunch. A pie and coffee were purchased for lunch, and an amazing looking (and tasting) Rhubarb and Apple Crumble Cake Slice for later.
After lunch, and a brief sit in the park to take advantage of some phone reception, we turned south towards Kanangra Boyd National Park. We drove past our eventual campsite heading to the Kanangra Walls. Some 30kms down a gravel road this was a hot and dusty drive, as well as a steady one as Buddy doesn't have the big wheels and suspension required to drive at speed over the corrugated surface and through the pot holes.
Kanangra Walls is a truly stunning sight, and made the drive worth while. The plateau mountains rise with shear, high cliffs of golden sandstone with wild tree covered mountains around. We walked to a small waterfall, which is part of a chain of falls dropping over steps in the cliff. Sadly the view point only afforded the view of a single fall. We did though sit and enjoy the view with our cake bought earlier in the day.
Heading out onto the plateau we were given views back to the falls, and out over the Blue Mountains to the north. We could also get an understanding of the flat topped, but nearly inaccessible world on the top of these mountains.
Back to our campsite. Another remote spot in the gum tree forest. Get to listen to the birds calling as we cook tea - a hulk of steak from Oberon earlier!
