Wow! What a day! It took a while to get there and a while to get back, but it was memorable. We took a trip on the bus to get to the port of Fajardo. We then waited for about an hour for the ferry to the island of Vieques. Vieques is a small island (6 miles wide, 20 miles long) off the east coast of PR. The ferry took 90 stomach churning minutes (there were a number of us who were a little queesy on that leg of the trip). We arrived at the capital city of Isabel II (Segundo) and were transported across the island to the second largest town, Esperanza. While Isabel II is on the Atlantic, Esperanza is located on the Caribbean. In Esperanza we got to snorkel (which was awesome), paddleboard, swim, and ride on a Hobie catamaran. It was everything you would expect to do in the Caribbean. The kids loved it, I loved it, it was a long, fun day. The adventure did not end on the island. We had the ferry back (not as bumpy) and the challenge of feeding 62 people at a Burger King and Church's chicken. 90 minutes later we were all finished and finally on our way back to San Juan tired, full, and sunburnt.
I have added an album of the highlights.
