After staying up way too late watching the Blackhawks reach the Stanley Cup finals (the boys didn't, they were so tired they went right to bed), we had to get up early again for the 90 minute bus ride to the Cueva Clara (Clear Caver) at the Rio Camuy Cave Park. We saw an introductory video and then boarded trams that took us down to the cavern entrance. They filmed parts of a "Pirates of the Caribbean" in the cavern. The cavern was huge. It had stalactites and stalagmites (I can't remember which was which), dripping water, an underground river, and this huge sinkhole that opened up into the forest above. We even walked past the bat cave, where all the bats sleep during the day. You could tell they were there because of the warmth, the smell, and the guano. It was all very impressive. Words and pictures will never do it justice, but I will try, as I have added an album of the highlights. After an hour or so tour of the cavern we headed out to get lunch. Before we left the cavern, the kids checked out the gift table. Never underestimate the capacity for 9-11 year olds to buy expensive crap.
We ate at an authentic PR restaurant not far from the cavern. It was so authentic that it was serving people from it's own roasted whole pig. After a good and cheap meal we are crtently headed back to San Juan for some relaxation.
