We arrived in Te Anau on our way to Milford sounds, it was a small town which consisted of one main road where everything shut at 5...so after discovering the crazy golf was shut but left open we had a quick round before dinner! The next morning Rich headed on 4 wheels and went quad biking, through a farm, many a puddle and eventually to the top of a mountain with spectatular views of the fiordlands. As Shelly was very jealous of Rich's 4 wheel adventure we decieded to rent a 'chuckle brothers' style quadricycle!...cool doesnt even cut it, full yellow stripy canope and fake steering wheels to boot! So after terrorising the town on 4 wheels we grabbed some fish and chips by the lake before headed on our way to Milfiord sounds.
That night we stopped in a DOC site which was right by the side of a lake, so once again in we jumped to watch the sunset from the water. After stocking up on some tips about the North island from a lady we met there and finishing of the last of th box of wine we called in a night in preperation of our 6am start! The early start went suprisingly well and we were well on our way to Milford sounds by 7am! The views were stunning and it looked like we were on the set for the lord of the rings as the clouds and mist hovered around the mountains. We got there in time for the first boat around the sounds so were the only ones on the water which was a brilliant bonus! We sailed right into the glacier fed waterfalls and filled up a cup of water and headed right out to sea. It was an amazing sight and the most bizzare landscape you could cunger up, so after catching a glimps of the seals we made it back to land and headed for the mirror lakes and glaciers! The ride back from Milford is as spectacular as Milford itsself, we stop and climbed a little glacier right at the side of the road...in our shorts and flip flops! And then wondered along a few little walks to waterfalls, mirrors lakes-which were exactly that, and suspended bridges.
