We landed in Christchurch from Fiji brown as coconuts, (well ok maybe a little burnt esp Richards nose!) and we were very excited about starting our NZ adventure! We had a couple of days in the city before we picked up our campervan so we checked into the 'jail house' for a few nights. This hostel was so cool, it had been a working prison up to ten years ago and had now be kept pretty much identical but converted into a hostel...so we checked into our cell on landing 1 and got comfy in our bunk beds! The next day we hired chopper style bikes and headed out to see the city...it would of all looked pretty cool except for the fact that helmets are a legal requirement in NZ so shelly did her best to try and make them look fashionable!we rode around town checking out the beautiful cathedral and stopped for a spot of lunch in the main square, which are home to a few thousand seaguls. lunch turned into a brawl and before we knew it we were fighting off the seaguls for our jacket potatoe..it was worth the fight! As we whizzed back to our hostel we spotted some punting and kayaking on the avon river in the city so we decided we would take that up for the next days activities. After a night watching films in the jail cinema we headed for the kayaks and began our 40minute trip upstream. After Shelly attempting to feed every cute duckling she could see on the river we floated the 20minutes downstream back. The next day it was time to pick up our long awaiting campervan, we were delighted when we layed eyes on our beauty...it was going to be our home on wheels for the next 5 weeks. Once the handover was complete we stocked up on supplies and headed to lake Tekapo.
