Had a sleep in due to the exhausting day we had before. Enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on Day Inn. With Internet finally working I managed to get a message from Maravilla (Tania Andrews friend from camp America) to say we could come stay at hers. So we cancelled our booking for the night and drove north to Oxnard. On the way we stopped at Carrmillo and another shopping mall. Great day shopping, with many great deals!!!! Then we went to Maravilla ' s. Her step mum and dad were awesome. We had some beer and a pull apart cheese stick while they helped us plan our trip out a bit. Her dad helps kids with autism attend state schools and her step mum was a summer camp leader so that kind of explains their personalities. We stayed in a little downstairs apartment.
Started the next day with a walk along the beach in Oxnard. Visited the shipwreck near the entrance of the naval base and watched a seal play in the waves. Had a spa on the roof of Maravilla house. Magnificent views and a great way to warm up as it has been a little bit chilly in the last couple of days. Headed up to Santa Barbara to meet up with Maravilla friend Jerry. Went out for a Californian beer and pizza from a place called lucky penny. This place actually uses the penny's. It's outside walls were covered in them. Looked pretty cool, only thing the pennies are useful for.
Went to Jerry's flat in the Isla Vista area which is like the student area in Dunedin. We had decided that we wanted the true college experience with a soriety party. Started playing drinking games such as gotcha cup. Got ready and then headed to the party, which we had to leave to town straight away so didn't even get to enjoy. Maravilla doesn't turn 21 for another year weeks so she introduced us to her mate who took us out. We bused in and she ditched us at the first place. We partied a bit. Erin had a bit of difficulty getting in as they thought our drivers licenses were fake ids. Grabbed some chips the bused back. We were lucky enough to be given the laundry as a place for us to sleep. We used all the couch pillows to make a bed.the big issue was it was cramped, smelt like cat feaces and urine as it was where the cat normally lived. The house also had a constant haze of Californian weed, and some very interesting people. Quite happy to get out of there.
