Meet our neighbours at the campground. A really lovely couple from San Diego. We then headed off to meet Georgia, Rebecca, Kirstie and Remai. It wasn't long before we realised our mistake. We had arranged to meet them at the Yosemite valley visitors centre. We thought this was a 2 minute walk from our camp. But it was actually a 40 minute drive. By the time we figured this all out, we knew it wasn't going to be possible to see the girls. Beautiful scenery all around us. The rocks are granite and the canyons are bloody massive. The drop off the edge of the road is really scary especially when you are the one driving. Got to curry village and parked up. Squirrels everywhere. They are all just wanting food. At first they were cute but now I realise they are everywhere. They are pretty cocky. They come right up to your feet looking for food. Started our first walk. We went on the misty trail to Verna falls and Nevada falls. Got quite wet as you walk right next to the falls. Beautiful area. But so many people around. Apparently it gets so much busier in two more weeks. I'm glad we are missing most of that. Returned to the car on the John Muir Trail. All up we walked about 11 km. The track was a lot more up hill than expected but it was nice to get some actual exercise in. Because we originally we were onky doing a 3 hour walk we only had some nuts to eat. Starving by the end. Headed back, made a chicken stir fry. Then we were so exhausted that we hoped into bed a 7 pm and watched "the vow" then we were all asleep by 9.
Slept in, the RV beside us said they were woken in the night by a bear rubbing against their vehicle. A little bit of a wake up call for the animals in this area. We drove to Tunnel view. This was an awesome view down the Yosemite valley. Then drove to Glacier point. This was a view over the top of the valley. Quite cold up here, at about 8000 feet. We could see where we walked yesterday. Ate our yummy ham sandwiches and apples. Continued on and parked up. From here we walked to Taft point. This was a spectacular view. Also very scary. We sat on the edge and looked over. It literally took your breath away. Especially scary as two base jumpers died at exactly a couple of nights ago. Erin was freaking out about us sitting on the edge, and so were all the people watching. Continued walking around Sentimental Dome. After getting excited about using a log to cross a river, we managed to take the wrong way. Got a little bit lost. No one else was around and it started to feel a bit gloomy. With the grey clouds rolling in and it beginning to hail, we abandoned the loop and went back the way we had come. Made it back safely and travelled back to Hodgdon Meadows. Had a pork stir fry, talked to our lovely neighbours. They told us how how to fill our water which was empty. Then watched "If I Stay" and went to slept. Today we named our van Harold. It seems to fit him perfectly. We have also discovered that we have to top and tail for optimum roam. Rotations every night of where you sleep are occurring. The slope of the parking spot means we are all rolling into each other. Fun times.
