We decided to take a day off from National parks today. Tried to sleep in but hot and sweaty in the van. Got ready and got our bikinis on. Ironically we drove to Lake Powell and discovered in was part of Glen Canyon National Park.
Parked up on the sand near the lake, got the books and chair out and relaxed for the morning. Had popcorn and corn, swam to cool off and even shaved our legs and wash our hair in the lake (people around us were taking photos of us lol).. Great way to cool off in the 36 degree heat. Something I haven't experienced before. Very hard heat to deal with.
Drove to horseshoe bend, which is a bend in the Colorado River just below the big Glen Canyon Dam. Such a cool little spot (see picture)
Such an incredibly hot night. So we got some vanilla ice cream and some MnMs, and sat outside McDonald's with our McFlurrys with the Internet. Oh we have the life. Spent a second night at Pages walmart. Not much sleep with no air conditioning and a van full of Bridgette farts.
The next day we once again woke early because of the heat. Headed off to Ken's Lower antelope canyon tour. When we arrived for our 11.20pm tour we found out it was 9.30am. We had crossed a time zone and hadn't realised. Luckily we could swap onto an earlier tour otherwise it could have been a long wait. We walked behind the building and down into the canyon that you can't even see from the top. The tour guide knew exactly what shots to take with which camera. A lot of fun playing with different images. An amazing place. Each line on the wall indicates 3 to 5000 years. And the thicker ones are where the tectonic plates moved. There were thousands of lines, sooooo old. Really, one of the best tours I have done so far.
Today is so scortching hot. We can only withstand being out in the heat forbout 5 minutes maximum. Unbelievable. Drove to Flagstaff. Found a swimming pool and got ready to swim only to find out the place closed in 45 mins and cost $9.50. So no shower again. Went to the theatre to try get some air conditioning. No good movies on for a while. Made stir fry in the carpark, got some treats from target and then watched "Hot Pursuit". Really trashy movie but some good laughs.
Headed to our usual, Walmart, for a sleep. Bridgette and I watched "make your move". An even worse movie. Tomorrow we are starting Junk Food Free June. Man its going to be hard, but totally necessary heading into the European summer.
