India and Nepal 2022
Wow! stupendous, amazing, a once in a lifetime experience. How do you describe a ballon flight over the pagodas of Bagan?
This has been a beautiful day from sunrise to sunset and one I shall always treasure.
By 6am, we were in a launch site field having croissants and tea before being allocated to Lea's balloon. The site has about 15 balloons all ready for inflating and taking to the skies as the sun rises over the Ayeyarwady river.
Up, up and away ...... It's a wonderful feeling to look out toward the sunrise and drift over the fields on the way to the pagoda zone. Lea is a great fee spirit and adds greatly to the experience with her sense of fun, exhilaration and professionalism.
We look down on the same pagodas that we had visited at ground level yesterday and you can appreciate the full extent of this remarkable landscape. The pagoda zone is awesome with hundreds of older buildings, many being renovated with bees nest like scaffolding plus the majestic mighty temples which can be seen in their full glory from above.
Its a a flight you simply do not want to end but after about 40 minutes, it is time for Lea to land the balloon on the sandy shore of the river. The boat with the launch crew arrive with bottles of champagne to celebrate a really special experience.
In the evening as the sun begins to lose its intensity, we find ourselves on a very deserted part of the river bank and watch as the reddy ball of the sun shimmers in the water. Almost as if choreographed, a man in a simple wooden boat rows across the river. A really beautiful moment as you will see from the photos and the end of a really memorable day.
