It's the day before my flight over to Bangkok and an opportunity to see inside the grounds of the British ambassadors residence. The afternoon is popular with local people and expats alike and in true British style, there is a queue to get in. It's an event about GREAT Britain and it's nostalgic in so many ways. The format is a village fete and it is such an old fashioned 'middle England' concept but everyone seems to have a good time. You can just imagine the days of Empire here and the way colonial rule worked. Sometimes I feel I have very little in common with this elite class of my fellow country people. Having said all that, we all have a great time and as always enjoy each others company For all of us British volunteers, we prefer the creative, the modern, the vibrant, the edgy and the fun style of the French here in Yangon. The Brits still have a long way to go to join up with the 21st century in projecting an image of the future and not the past.
