India and Nepal 2022
Having enjoyed the e bike experience yesterday, we book a full day option for 7000 kyats which is a really cheap and fun way to see the sights.
We we have done a bit of research and head to the major iconic pagodas which are popular with Myanmar visitors as well as international tourists.
I absolutely love the Buddha images within the Ananada pagoda - beautifully gilded and providing a serene presence. We keep visting pagodas each built In a different style from within the 300 years of different architectural fashions.
Towards the the end of the morning, we unexpectedly arrive at the river front and see a great local scene of men and mainly women taking pebbles on their heads in baskets from a river boat and dumping them on the ground. Manual labor in the way it has been used for generations.
The Bagan museum is better than expected providing a glimpse into how this place was built a thousand years ago. To see depictions of life centuries ago is a reminder that for some, the lifestyle has changed little - wooden houses, bullock carts and basic human needs.
I really enjoy the Sein Nyet pagoda in particular which is quiet, except for the chanting of monks. I chat to a delightful young girl who sells me some of her drawings which she does in her spare time after school.
As late afternoon arrives, we take our position with hundreds of others at a well known pagoda, which is a classic viewing place for sunsets and providing a great 360 panorama as you walk around the four sides.
