India and Nepal 2022
I'm back in Yangon and taking it easy after my operation in Thailand. I am staying at Melani and Chris' flat in midtown, where they have a wonderful view of Shwedagon pagoda.
During the early morning I watch the sun rise whilst listening to meditation music - mystical and magical.
On Saturday afternoon, I meet up with Ben and we watch the Chin United vs Hanthawady United match at the Aung San stadium - old rundown but full of character. It's free to get in and the local supporters, curious at our presence provide a fizzy drink, cake and water. Ben is 6'7" tall and is nicknamed 'Peter Crouch '
As we leave the ground we bump into three of the Brazilian players of Hanthawady and the captain Junior pulls out his shirt from his kitbag and gives it to me. I am like a kid once again, excited by the gesture and it's a momento of my time here I will look forward to seeing on display at home!
We pose for some photos and I notice the modest club supporters van parked on the street as a monk walks past.
Another good afternoon of surprises and enjoyment here in downtown Yangon.
And later, Ben and I visit a Sports Bar in the exclusive Golden Valley part of town - big screens and the FA Cup from Burnley - what's not to like!
