Margaret?s son Micheal kindly asked us if we would like to visit the island for the weekend on the Tuesday before. We accepted and caught the 5.30pm ferry from Auckland over to the island which took around an hour. Micheal met the 3 of us at the terminal as Margaret came with us and we went to straight to the bowling club and met Micheal?s partner Vicky. We had a drink and good laugh and also had some food before going back to their home. The next morning Micheal and Vicky gave us the guided tour of the Island and we visited some lovely beaches and bays and we also visited some of their friends who had some gorgeous houses overlooking the Island and sea. The roads were very winding and you couldn?t have felt further away from the busy streets of Auckland. We ended up back at the bowling club and we had some drinks and played some pool before going for a gorgeous Indian which Micheal and Vicky kindly paid for. That night we were a little worse for wear and Micheal had a game on the PS2 called Buzz which was a music quiz game that was highly addictive and a good four way competition, unfortunately Ria won 3 of the 4 games and Ben won the other game, and as you can imagine we didn?t hear the end of it from Ria!! The next day everyone had a hangover but we had more of the Island to see, so we went to Enclosure Bay and it has to be one of the nicest bays we have seen since traveling. The water was gorgeous and crystal clear and the rocks surrounding the bay were easy and safe to climb. In the afternoon Micheal taught us how to play bowls as it?s one of the main sports in NZ and it is definitely not as easy as it looks?just ask Ria?but it was great fun. We chilled out in the evening watching TV and Micheal treated us to home made Sunday roast which was gorgeous and we had a few drinks before going to bed. We said our goodbyes in the morning and thanked Vicky and Micheal who were great hosts for a lovely weekend where we felt very welcome and caught the 9am ferry back over to Auckland.
