Old town San Diego. Having driven through this place on our tour yesterday, we decided to visit again today. 'Old', of course, is a relative term in the US but it was a good kitsch place. Wild west/Tex Mex fun though not sure the national trust would have approved! Howellsey loved the cacti growing there. What a surprise!

We went to go to the Broken Yolk cafe as featured on 'man versus food' this morning but the queue was so long we decided on an alternative venue choice. The Cheese Shop claimed to have the best breakfast in the Gaslamp quarter and I tend to agree. Don't worry, this blog will not solely be about food and drink! Honestly! Have been a bit carried away this first week!

'Analog' - the best burger I've ever eaten. It had two rare cooked burgers, crispy bacon, blackforest ham, avocado, pickled cucumbers, tomato, lettuce and an amazing sauce, the ingredients of which are yet to be determined! It was called the mac daddy - how appropriate! Ian's had bacon, blue cheese and onion rings! Nomnom. The beers came in pint sized cans. What a place.

We went on a city tour today that included a trip round San Diego, taking in the gaslamp quarter, seaport village, Coronado island and its cool hotel where 'some like it hot' was filmed, the old town and La Jolla. Following that we got out on the water for an education on San Diego's navel base which is one of the biggest in the world. First still the favourite though pretty brutal! I've had raspberry cider by Wyder. Most delicious and not too sweet so stuck with it! Okay, stayed for another. This time the Flying Dog Classic Pale.
