Leaving Coober Pedy we worked out how much fuel we would need to get to Port Augusta. Where possible we have avoided filling up in remote areas as price can be up to $1.00 more per litre than the general price around the cost. The most we paid for diesel was $2.01 per litre at Yulara. So the plan was to make it to Port Augusta with just enough fuel on board. However the weather had other ideas sending a 50km/h head wind our way. By 10:00 am the weather had really closed in and we ended up pulling up at the Pimba Roadhouse for the rest of the day. All we could do was sit in the van and play board games with the kids as the wind rocked us from side to side.
The following day (Sunday 12th of July) the wind had eased and we made our way to Port Augusta. We arrived around lunch time and the first thing I did was give everyone a high five. We all felt a great sense of achievement, one very large circle and 18,500km completed. After stocking up on supplies we headed down to Crystal Brook which was a really lovely farming town. We stayed out of town at a really great free camp called Bowman Park. Although cold and wet it was it was great to see green grass and crops again.
