We arrived in Airlie Beach on the 30th of August and after lunch checked into a Top Tourist caravan park. The weather was beautiful, around 29 degrees. I weren't expecting Airlie Beach to so commercial, loaded with shops, appartment buildings and resorts.
The kids spent the afternoon in the pool whilst Mandy and I sat on the deck chairs going through brouchers to work out what we were going to do and see the following day.
We decided to do a half day cruise to Whitehaven Beach. Whitehaven Beach is a pristine, award winning beach on Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsundays. It sretches over seven kilometres and boasts brilliant white silica sand that is among the purest in the world. Many people claim Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach are the most beautiful places in the world.
Cyclone Debbie hit this area in April 2017 and there is still alot of re-building going on. Of all the Islands there are only two resorts fully up and running at this stage. The trees on the islands and at Airlie Beach have been stripped from strong winds and it looks as though a fire has been through in places.
The 4:00pm feeding of the birds at the caravan park was interesting. Rainbow Lorikees land on you and feed out of your hand. That evening we had a fun night at the park attending a sasauge sizzle they hosted. We had an early night as we had to be up at 5:30am.
