Arrived at Pireus port in Athens bright and early, about 5.30am after catching the overnight ferry from Naxos. We actually managed to get a good nights sleep with our matresses set up on the deck like the professional campers we are!! Started the day checking out the Acropolis, we thought we were early being 8am and all but all the tours buses were there already! Saw the sights and got a few pics, by 10am it was scorching hot and we were suffering!! Decided to check out the original olympic stadium and caught the change of guard at the parliament building, got all the tourist pics along the way! Managed to check into our hotel early - first night in a hotel all of the trip, admittedly it was 2 star and found a massive cockroach in our room - so I probably would have slept better in a tent!! Checked out the rest of the city and then the next day caught the train to Thessaloniki which ended up being 5 1/2 hours standing as the train was fully booked! From here we could catch the train to Belgrade overnight.
