Renee:
Arrived into Stockholm Skavsta airport nice and early so we could get at least a half day kayaking. This company Do the North set you up with all the gear, food, navigation maps and we set off on our own after being given a low down on the area. The first day we just cruised at a leisurely pace and found a wicked campsite in amongst the trees and some rocks for the kayaks to sit on. Most of the islands are rock so is quite hard finding a spot you can put in tent pegs etc. Dave made a fire and we had fresh fish for dinner, we were even given recipes so managed to pick up a few swedish recipes and had a really nice first meal! First night of camping in the wild was sweet, we came across a few large "piles of s***" which made us wonder if we weren't alone on the island....moose maybe?? Didn't see any! It was pretty windy on our second day so we didn't cover a lot of ground, we had to cross the shipping chanel to get into the outer archipelago which proved a bit challening, but made it in the end and found a spot to set up camp, not as nice as the night before but we were shattered!
Dave:
After the second night of sleeping on hard rocks!! We set off on the mission to see the large group of small islands, something like 1000 islands within this lot! The days paddling started out great, a wee bit of wind but being the great navigator that I am! I managed to stear us via away from the wind. We then started to battle the wind as we headed south always looking for that sweet spot for lunch!! Then it all hit the fan as the wind got up and the rain started to come down along with the rolling thunder! So we hunkered down for an hour of so until the sun showed it's self again! Finally after 18km we fond this sweet shelterd spot with a nice little bay. Renee even managed to sneak in a quick swim!! That night we manged the bset sunset so far and sat down to Sweedish meatablls, The best ever! Thursday morning we woke to strong winds from the west and we just couldn't be arsed so it was a day or rest and eating the large mount of food we still hab left including a great fry up for breaky!!
Friday was our last day and started out as the best of the trip! We had made the decison to go for the furtherest pick up point so another big day was inorder!! We made quick work of the morning and arrived at the fishing village before lunch. We were to find out later that this had actually been a seal clubbing village before that got all illegal and s***!!! Second half of the day ended up been a big battle into the wind so by the time we reached the pick up point we were stuffed. The first shower in a week was the best ever!! Then it was back to the airport and Greece awaiting us!!!
