Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We awoke and found we were travelling down a fjord this morning. We stayed in a junction of a fjord with two tugs keeping us stationery - the fjord is too deep for anchors - whilst the passengers booked on the overland trip disembarked. After breakfast we went up on deck to view the wonderful waterfalls and some communities as we slowly motored by, then I went and bought several pashminas for myself and the girls from the ship's shop. We eventually arrived at Geiranger and had lunch in the Lido so that we could watch the view.
We then met up with our tour group in the theatre, disembarked and boarded the bus. We were taken up a mountain with 11 hairpin bends, down the other side, past a different fjord and then a lake and finally came to a summer farm where we were shown brown cheese being made. We were also taken to one of the huts where we could sample the different cheeses and the caramels, all made from goats milk. We had an hour to wander around. We saw their 300 goats wandering over the mountain side, and there was a film crew there, making an ad. Then we boarded our bus and went back to the ship, stopping at the pier for a photo with a troll, and some souvenir shopping.
We decided to dine in the Lido this evening, as they were doing a French night and we were able to have a table by the window, which was wonderful as we were passing by spectacular scenery. Dinner was Duck a L'orange and Crepes Suzettes- lovely!
