Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So we were up early today, well, I was. I watched as we came into to anchor at Cabo and Tom woke because I opened the balcony door. We had moored near a seal colony and they were quite vocal, whether it be in complaint for the early morning wake up, or as a welcome to their space I don't know. We also saw over 20 boats heading out to sea - probably fishermen. So, we went up to la Terrazza for breakfast. The Hungarian waiter said he was hoping to go swimming. The waiters are so helpful - they like to tuck my arm in theirs, I guess because of the walking stick. And they insist on carrying your food, walking stick or not. Cheryl and Grahame (the people from Sylvania) were having brekky and stopped to chat as they wandered out. Lovely people. They're going ashore today too. At 8.15 we gathered in the theatre, where we saw Joy, the lovely Irish lady we met the other day. She and some friends she introduced us to were going horse riding on the beach! Garry and Noelene (the lovely Brisbane couple we met on the first day) were coming on our tour and it was lovely to spend some more time with them. The crew gave us a water bottle each to take ashore - we didn't have to have it charged to our room like some other cruises. We caught a tender over to the docks, where we were surrounded by some awesome luxury yachts. From there we were wrangled on to a coach (us and the lovely lady in the wheelchair in the front seats). We motored to an exclusive hotel with a lovely view of Cabo San Lucas. After a refreshing drink we continued on in the coach to San Jose del Cabo. This is the town where you go to raise children, according to the tour guide. It's just 20 minutes down the road from Cabo San Lucas, and has a picturesque city office and church. After a while we reboarded the coach and were taken to a glass blowing factory, which was really interesting. Then it was time to return to the ship. We discovered as we were returning to our cabin that a lovely Canadian couple that we'd just met on the shore excursion were in the stateroom next to us. He joked that we'd have to behave ourselves now that he knows who we are! The weather had finally warmed up (it was only 11 degrees when we had landed in LA) so we decided to eat hotdogs by the pool. I was in a bit of pain after all the walking and we needed rehydrating. Well, Tom started with a beer, and I had a scotch and coke - biggest s&c I've ever seen, and you could really taste the scotch. Then the lady at the next table accidentally ordered a second beer that she didn't want and Tom was 2/3 through his so the waiter asked Tom if he'd drink it. So I thought I'd try the Exotica cocktail - Malibu, orange juice and topped with sparkly. Then Tom thought he'd like to try that too, so we had another one each, and then we thought we should try the pina coladas. It was a hot day ok? We were rehydrating! And then we had a 2 hour nap!! The staff are very hospitable. After our nap we went downstairs to check out the sunglasses sale. Tom didn't like the ones on sale but he bought me some new Maui Jim sunglasses, after he recovered from the shock of the price. We decided to eat dinner up in La Terrazza. By night it is a lovely Italian restaurant. We ordered only the two courses, antipasto and the mains. The waiter wasn't pleased with this "for you signora I will order a small portion of xxxx pasta, and for you signor I will order a small portion of xxxx pasta to have between the two courses. You must have some of our pasta". And of course he was right - it was delicious. But I don't remember the name. He gave us some prosecco to welcome us, and we chose to have some lovely red wine from Verona to go with our mains, but he kept refilling my prosecco until we got to our beef. We both had some berry sorbet before dessert - the tiramisu was just lovely, and Tom had cassata. When we finished dinner Tom wanted to go downstairs to the bar for a chocolate martini. The waiter down there remembered us (Tom Collins) and we promised we would come back tomorrow for an actual Tom Collins drink. We got talking to some lovely people from Colorado, Diane and Ted, who also own a home on Vancouver Island. They've seen quite a bit of Australia, including staying on a cattle station in the outback, and driving up to it from Adelaide. We watched as they gave instructions to the barman on how to make one of their favourite drinks, which including setting the lemon rind on fire to make the oil in it drip into the drink! So of course we had a second chocolate martini. Then it was bedtime, after we put our clocks forward an hour, again.
