Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Slept late again today - the rocking motion always works well - but we did make it to the dining room for breakfast. After breakfast we returned to our room and I found the laundry for our floor just down the hall - 3 Miele washers and 3 driers, with washing detergent all provided for free!! I chatted with a lovely lady from the Isle of Wight while the washing took car of itself. When I took it back to our room we put it on hangers and strung it to dry on the line in the bathroom. It was dry and away before dinner! After a little further relaxation we took ourselves to lunch at La Terrazza on deck 7, and what a lovely lunch it was. It was the buffet lunch and whilst we were choosing our selections Tom turned to find the captain standing next to him, dining with two of his officers! So we had lunch, which included some seafood basket items, mine accompanied by Heidsieck French champagne, Tom's accompanied by a chardy from Victoria. We were amazed that the wine waiter, who served us last night at Le champagne knew our surname! After lunch we had a nap! Then we went to the lounge for 3 separate talks: one highlighting the Silversea voyages for the next two years; one talking about Acapulco (the day after tomorrow) and another one talking about the port after that. After the last talk we went for a wander around the ship before returning to watch some land passing by! Then it was time to shower, shave and shampoo before our first formal night and our meet the captain cocktail party. ''Twas a splendid affair with all the glittery outfits. In honour of our Italian captain and the Italian family who own the ship, we were all drinking prosecco instead of champagne. The lady taking our photos indicated that they use facial recognition to identify our cabin numbers, and then they'll email us our photos - FOR FREE!! Gosh, we are so used to being ripped off for photos! From there we wandered down to the dining room and asked to be seated at the same table as the night before last because we really liked our waiter Allan. He also greeted us by name! It's amazing because it's not like they have to operate any accounts for us to pay for anything. Now dinner!! Well!! I had blue spanner crab meat, followed by foie gras with black truffled caviar, and then grilled Maine lobster! Tom had Oxtail soup, followed by mesclun salad and then veal escalopes. For dessert I had a piece of cheese from the Swiss Appenzell region (took me back 3 years or so!!). With a fine glass of port. Sooo nice! This was followed by a scoop of pink champagne sorbet and a scoop of sangria sorbet. Tom had just the sangria sorbet, preceded by a banana and caramel concoction. Very nice dinner indeed!! Caviar and lobster 2 nights in a row! Oh my! We feel the way we did on the first two cruises we ever did on the QE2, before she was taken over totally by Carnival. We feel like we are being looked after, and not like there's another way to rip us off just around the corner. It is lovely.
