It's Ramadan. And I'm hungry. And it's really hard to find food. I just walked around for an hour and a half and only the mall had any food. And I was the only one in the whole mall eating. I felt guilty. All the servers were Muslim at the Texas Chicken. You know I lived in Texas for 14 years, but I don't remember the state being known for it's chicken. But I have to say this chicken was pretty damn good, and I know it was prepared especially for me since I was the only one eating in the entire mall. Yum, Texas Chicken. I ordered another chicken because I didn't know when the next time I would find food would be.
When you can find it, the food in Java is quite good. I like Gado-Gado, I like Gudek, hell I even like Texas Chicken. It seems like now is the time when US corporations are starting to take over here in Indonesia. In 10 years, it will probably look just like Texas. Minus the fat people.
I dressed like a king today. I was chosen by this local restaurant to dress like a king for their promotional material. I made $30 and ate a whole chicken, no not Texas Chicken, this was King's Chicken. Delicious.
I've been to 5 of Surabaya's 17 malls. Well, you can't see everything, and you need to save some sights for next time right?
Indonesia travel is hard, I'm not gonna lie. The people are so lovely that it's reason enough to visit. My last couchsurfers' mother cried when I left. The people here definitely stay in your heart, and they are the country's greatest resource. The country is not ready for tourists' but if you can deal with a lot of crap, you can handle it barely. There's some surprises and funny stories and memories waiting to be made, no doubt. Come for the people, not for the comfort.
