Had another earlish start....Fern from Africa Story picked us up at 830am. She was our driver, guide etc for the rest of the day. We had 7 other people on the tour: TJ, Lars, Connie, Stephan, Pascale, Vicky and Jill.
We first started of with the most relaxed wine tasting of the day at Fairview where we were also had some cheese tasting session as well. Drinking commenced at 10am...jokes....all the wines seemed to smell the same by the end of the day.
At the next vineyard called Solms Astor, we felt like we were made to down the wines as if we were having shots....werent feeling great by lunchtime. It was amazing that the colours of the vineyards also changed with the autumn season.
Fern took us to lunch @ le Pommier where we had a greek salad a very cheesy lasagne and of course a glass of sauvignon blanc! By now everyone was very happy so we played on the swings and slide before we went onto the next place.
Our third vineyard was the most poncy of them all....we felt like we had to behave and wear suits instead of our cropped trousers and sandals. Tokara was in Stellenbosch and had the biggest wine bottle we have ever seen...5 litres! It also had olive farms so we had some...ummmm..delicious!
Finally, we went to Villiera which specialised in Champagne. By now everything smelt and tasted the same!!! Nira was a bit on the happy side so decided to go with the greek tradition and smash a glass...the first Fern has experienced!
Our group had a lot of fun sharing stories so we decided to all meet for dinner at Mama Africa's on Long street. It specialised in live African Music and game meat which meant we had limited choice. Everything smelt of cheese and were put off it but the music kept us going...we karoked to it!
We called it an early night after about 35 glasses of wine...slept like babies!
