When we got back into Hanoi the coach stopped on the outskirts of town. They had other transportation to bring us to our hotel but we said we would walk as it would be quicker. We were dropped off not too far from where that overnight bus dropped us off when we got to Hanoi and the taxi brought us to town. It was literally around the corner from the old quarter!! The cheek of the taxi driver with his 17km and 290 dong! Still annoyed me to think about it!
We checked back in at Camilla 6 to a different room but still a deluxe with a balcony, but with only one double bed. We relaxed for a while on the balcony and made sure we were sorted and packed for the flight in the morning. We checked with the owners about getting a taxi to the airport early in the morning and she looked pretty worried saying people didn't really work on the 18th as it was a holiday for new year. She rang round a couple of taxis and got us one for 6am for $15 which is the normal price. We were expecting to pay more with it being new year! She was so helpful and lovely and even made us a pack lunch breakfast for the airport! They really were two genuinely nice people!
Later on we headed out for food, or that was our intention when we went out, but we ended up walking for over an hour not finding anywhere and getting lost amidst the new year carnage! The night market wasn't on but there were loads of stalls lining a different street selling new year stuff. We ended up not going for food and going to a bar for a couple of beers. Went then went to another bar that said they had food still on but she ran and got us a menu from another bar to serve us food. It didn't really have meals on it so ended up with spring rolls. Everywhere was starting to shut apart from bars so we thought why not! The town was so mad- so so busy everywhere like no where we had ever seen! It was unreal! Hundreds and hundreds of people and bikes trying to squeeze around one another and the bars full with people drinking too. It was fascinating to see everybody bustle by! New year was such a crazy time! So glad we got to experience some of it before leaving! We didn't end up getting any dinner and both just grabbed a delicious kebab on the way home instead! I haven't really been feeling too well today. It started just before getting on the bus back to Hanoi. I've had a really bad headache and felt like I was going to be sick. I never usually get anything like that. I might sometimes feel sick but I never feel like I am actually going to or never gip (unless hungover!) so god knows what it is. I think we are both pretty run down and need to catch up and have a good sleep to be honest. Not sure when that will be though!
Pretty sad to be leaving Vietnam tomorrow but I am excited to be going back to Thailand and Nath definitely is too! Vietnam it's been a pleasure!! What an amazing place!!!
