to reach our next stop of taman negara national park we had a 3 hour minibus ride, then a 2 and a half hour narrow boat ride up the river. very scenic, passing some water buffalo, locals fishing and seeing the edge of the jungle. our guesthouse has a lovely view of the river, opposite the national park. we ate in one of the floating restaurants on the river (though im wondering if i ate more flies than rice as there was so many of them round my food!)
the next day we got up early to have a full day in the park. all the trails are well signposted so no chance of getting lost! we followed one that eventually led to the canopy walkway. was really excited about walking along rope bridges high up in the treetops. i have done treetop walks before but this was the best one, as it was literally narrow rope bridges that sway when you walk on them. you have to stay 10 metres apart from anyone else. couldnt help but think my mum would hate this!!! there are normally 12 rope bridges which makes it one of the largest in the world (or the largest, i cant remember) but a tree had fallen down shortening it to only 6 rope bridges. bit of a shame, but was still great!

after swinging in the trees we took the bukit teresek trail which led up to a lookout. the walk was pretty tough and steep, especially in the heat wearing jeans!! (we didnt want leeches attached to our legs!) eventually we reached the top to see the view which was nice. thought we would stop and have some lunch but the flies were very annoying.

really enjoyed our walks in the national park, though we didnt see any animals which is a bit of a shame, though i guess the park is so vast, what animal is going to stray into the outskirts where we were. we did hear of an elephant coming nearby on the evening which hasnt happened in a long time but we didnt know about it till the morning! we were busy playing card games with some austrians!
