our next stop to penang was by a 3 hour ferry ride which took us to georgetown, pretty much the centre of things. staying at travellers inn which is pretty basic but the staff are so friendly. i love them!
thinking we are cursed here though! first day we thought we would relax around the botanical gardens.... caught a bus which took ages, arrived in a complete downpour with thunder (though luckily the rain eventually eased off and we could walk around) was pretty, lots of monkeys - though one of them charged at me, and i dodged it and screamed which sarah found highly amusing. she wouldnt have been laughing if it had tried to attack her! then we sat waiting for our bus to turn up.... and waited.... and waited... for 2 hours!!!!!!! was very frustrating!
on our second day sarah wanted to visit the butterfly farm. we caught another bus which took 45 minutes, walked for 1km, and then found out it was closed for the month! didnt know what to do, the beach didnt look anything special (plus it had started to rain again) so headed all the way back again. was going to go somewhere else but we had had enough of buses.
on our last day we visited penang hill. a steep tram ride that takes you up for fantastic views. though after queuing for what seemed like hours (prob was) it started to rain heavy again. we reached the top and you couldnt see anything! though after a while i think our luck changed and the weather cleared up. we got to see the amazing views, had our photos taken with a giant burmese albino snake, and had a henna tattoo on my foot. unfortunately, we had to queue again for about an hour to get back down!!
we wanted to visit a temple also, as it was the biggest one in south east asia but we ran out of time. bit gutted, but never mind.
